whot's nu?

hmmm, it's a gorgeous early fall day here. not even 90 degrees yet, and the sun's angle is enjoyable vs. frying; there is a breeze and the windchimes are thrumming at my new neighbor's. i mean, it is 1:00 in the afternoon and my windows are actually OPEN!!!

we are all fine. sam continues to fight at night if he manages to slip out; i am ready to chain him to my desk chair. dawgs are good--sun bear happier since the weather has turned, and angus, as always, is my ever-present sidekick.

i find i am missing Chris--or at least missing the regular, reliable connection with Other that sometimes helps define Self. but i'm not in the market for anyone at all, either....romance is not on my to-do list. rediscovering friendship in the context of "i'm not looking" is good for the soul.

i have a 'non-date' this friday with a friend of mutual persuasion (i.e. also "not looking"). we will have dinner and then go hear Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christy speak about Spiritual Partnership. just gotta love the irony of it all.

i have been reading voraciously about Tibet. and watching videos about Tibet. also a couple of books about Native American/Tibetan connections. deeply interesting to me right now.

don't you just love that half-smile on the Buddha's face? it's how i feel most of the time lately. (thanks to James, from whose blog i lifted that pic!)

oh, and i'm going to California (Berzerkly!) in October to help nurse a friend who is having shoulder surgery. she is paying my way, angel that she is. i am hungry for the coastline, for Big Water, for the expanse of blue coolness extending outwards infinitely.

plus she is a hill of fun, even post-surgery, i'll wager. she is Wavy Gravy's chiropractor, for you who get that reference, and broke her clavicle last spring, skiing in New Mexico. she's been working half-time or less since, putting up with pain and inconvenience and other people running her practice (both a blessing and a curse, if you know what i mean). but through it all she maintains the voice of Spirit is teaching her how to handle everything, even when she doesn't want to acknowledge it. she is a warrior too. i am blessed to be part of her convalescence....and think that i'll be the one who is healed!

this is the last question on a poverty quiz i just took; you may be able to access the whole quiz HERE.
makes me want to hurl, truthfully.

the correct answer really is (a) 2 hours.
sheesh.

not healed yet

i blew off the Medicine Buddha practice. got about a mile from home and heard the little voice say, "don't go."

so i turned the car around and came home.

the worst part is that i called the hostess and lied about why i wasn't coming. sigh.

[if you know something about horses, you may recognize the phrase "barn sour." it's when a horse hangs around the barn so much, it gets very nervous, uncomfortable, and jittery when it has to leave--as in, on a trail ride with some city folk riding it's back.

[so every step out is L-O-O-N-N-G-G-E-R than the last. and every step in a homeward direction is quickquickquickquick.

[i ran a riding stables for a few years, until i ran out of money. bought all the horses, all the hay, housing supplies, building materials. oh, and the beer, too.

[that's what happened to the nice nest egg i inherited from my grandma. oh well.]

there have been a few days this summer in which i haven't really been able to leave the house. thought they were done with....but i guess i'm not quite healed yet. and i can live with that, because i can see that i've made progress.

i think i'll go do my own Medicine Buddha practice. that will definitely help.
:)

random shots

well--for the past 2 1/2 hours i have been browsing blogs and leaving comments. what a salubrious holiday undertaking!

fall is in the air. we don't get much over 95-100 these days. (ha)

there was a great rain and lightning storm here on saturday. i was going out to TerraSante with my friends J. and S. for a full-moon gathering, but we had to turn around at the first gushing wash. we had been fishtailing in the mud up to that point in his 4WD anyway, so we ended up going to Gate's Pass for the twilight lightning show.

J. never travels without at least 3 didgeridoos and assorted flutes, shakers, rattles, and claves in his truck, so after the sun had completely disappeared we asked the only other fellow at the lookout, a photographer, if he minded if we got some instruments out and played some music. i don't think he was expecting didgeridoos!

didge music is desert music--vast, encompassing, mystical, and meditative. we were just enjoying ourselves--J. and S. were blowing didges and i was accompanying them with assorted hand percussion. the photographer was so impressed, he told us that he wants to hire us to play the background music for an upcoming video he is making. we'll see!

in the meantime, Chris and i have spoken and emailed a couple of times, and are keeping silent for now (probably forever). i can't imagine how chaotic his life must be, but mine is certainly less so without our involvement. what else can i say? i get lonely sometimes, but that's what my animals are for. as long as there are riverbeds to walk and dog parks to explore, i've got good company--plus J. has been a good friend as well.

later on this afternoon, i'm going to my Buddhist friends' new home for a Medicine Buddha practice and pot luck. tashi delek!

many thanks to Tara Dharma for the Medicine Buddha pic....

p.s. update on sam: after 3 days of hiding behind the futon bed, sam has decided that i am still all right, and it is OK for him to drape himself all over me once again. imagine my delight. :)
